These values ​​are often corrected later. The quake occurred at 18:21 local time (10:21 clock German time) in the west of the island of New Britain in the Bismarck Archipelago at a depth of 58 kilometers. Reports of damage or casualties were not available at first. Quakes of this magnitude can regularly cause damage within a radius of up to 70 kilometers.
