Chick-Fil-a Is Closing Down Its First UK Branch After Protests From Gay Rights Groups

According to BBCLGBTQ rights campaigners called for a boycott of the new branch, located in the Oracle Shopping Center in Reading, England. The shopping center told BBC that they will not be extending Chick-fil-A’s lease: “We always look to introduce new concepts for our customers, however, we have decided on this occasion that the right thing to do is to only allow Chick-fil-A to trade with us for the initial six-month pilot period and not to extend the lease any further.”

In 2017, Think Progress reported that Chick-fil-A donated to organizations that supported discriminatory messages. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Paul Anderson Youth Home, and the Salvation Army are the organizations Chick-fil-A helped to fund, all of which are known for their anti-LGBTQ messages.
