Democrat in the US 2020 election campaign US Senator Kamala Harris quits presidential race. She was one of several Democrat candidates. The politician from California thus draws the consequence of hardly having any chances in the primaries.
US Senator Kamala Harris does not want to pull against Donald Trump in the US election campaign. The Democrat announced on Tuesday evening to renounce her candidacy.
The 55-year-old was long regarded as the bearer of hope of young Democrats, who are counted to the progressive wing of the party. However, she finally fell back in polls and donations. She did not have sufficient financial resources to continue her campaign, she wrote in an email to her supporters.
This is still 15 Democrats compete for the candidacy of the party. The US primaries begin in early February, with the actual presidential and congressional elections taking place in early November.
From 2004 to 2011, Harris was a district attorney in San Francisco, and from 2011 to 2017, she served as the Attorney General in the most populous state. She was the first woman and the first black woman in this office. Since 2017 she sits for California in the Senate. In January, she announced her candidacy , now followed by the retreat.
Harris is known as a critic of Trump’s tough immigration policy. Among other things, she campaigned vehemently for the “Dreamer”, young migrants who came illegally to the United States as children. They are protected by the program Daca.
